Wiring VoIP for use on all phones in your house...

  1. Obtain a 2-Line phone jack adapter from DACOR or your favorite phone supplier.  DACOR will give you the adapter if you turn in your DSL filters in exchange.
  2. Make sure that the phone jack where your DSL modem is plugged in has all 4 colored wires properly connected to your house phone wiring, if not connect the colors as noted in "DSL Jack inside".  If the yellow and black wires are connected to the screws that go to the center two connectors in the jack, stop and call DACOR, your DSL service may already be wired properly and you will not need the 2-Line adapter.
  3. At the Verizon terminal on the outside of your house, removed the red and green wires from the connectors and connect the black and yellow wires in their place.
  4. Plug the 2-Line adapter into the jack in place of your DSL modem (remove any splitters and other phone equipment).
  5. Plug the Line port on your DSL modem into L2 on the adapter using a standard (RJ-11) phone cord.
  6. Plug your VoIP Adapter's WAN port into the Ethernet port of your DSL Modem using a Cat 5 Ethernet cable.
  7. Plug the Line Port on your VoIP adapter into L1 on the 2-Line adapter.
  8. If you have a phone connected to this jack it can be plugged into the L1+L2 port on the 2-Line adapter (DSL filters are no longer required).  You should now hear the VoIP dial tone on all phones.

Notes:

  • The VoIP Adapter (ATA) should be the first device connected to your DSL Modem if you experience voice quality issues (like echo or delays).
  • Do not do this conversion if you current have two phone lines.  The black and yellow wires may be in use for the second line. In this case additional separate wiring and phone jack to your DSL Modem is required and the adapter will not be used.
  • Do not do this conversion on a FAX line unless you have ordered the special FAX over VoIP service.  FAX machines and other dialup modem devices will not operate reliably on standard VoIP service.
  • Be sure to sign up for e911 service with your VoIP carrier and put the e911 stickers on your phones.
  • Be sure to add a Battery Backup unit for both your DSL modem and VoIP adapter if your want to insure uninterrupted phone service during a power outage.
  • Contact your phone company if you want to continue your white pages listing after your local number has been moved to your new VoIP service.
