Check or Test your Dialup Connection - Windows 95/98

To check and/or test your dial-up networking connection to DACOR, double-click the My Computer icon on your desktop and double-click on Dial-Up Networking.

Check Your Connection

First check your connection setup by right-clicking on the DACOR connection icon and click Properties.  Verify that the phone number is correct and click Configure to check the modem settings.  On the Connection tab make sure the Wait for dial tone before dialing and Cancel the call if not connected within 90 secs are both checked and the later is set for at least 90 secs.  Click OK.

Now click Server Types.  The only boxes checked should be Enable software compression and TCP/IP.  Click on TCP/IP Settings and make sure it is set for Server assigned IP address and Server assigned name server addresses and that the Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network boxes are checked.  When done click the OK button to save/close all the dialog boxes until you return to the Dial-Up Networking window (with your DACOR connection icon).

Test Your Connection

Now double-click on the DACOR connection icon.  The standard dial-up connection dialog box should appear.  Click on the Dialing Properties button and confirm that all the settings are correct.  When done click the OK button to save your changes and click the Connect button to connect to DACOR.  Once connected you should be able to launch your favorite browser and browse the Internet.

Congratulations.  You have successfully connected to the Internet.
