How to Setup your Westell 2200/6100 DSL Router
The Westell model 2200 and 6100 DSL modems combine the features of a DSL modem and router in one box.
They also have a built-in USB Ethernet adapter that may be used to connect a single computer that
does not have an Ethernet port. The use of the USB adapter is not recommended for most
applications, and should only be used if absolutely necessary. The following setup instructions
assume that you are connecting via the Ethernet port.
-
Start with one computer connected directly to the Westell modem, either by a single
cable or through a simple network hub or switch. If you are currently connected through a
router (setup to do DHCP) you may have to temporarily re-route your cables to bypass it.
-
Setup the computer for DHCP (to obtain an IP address automatically).
If your computer is
setup for a Static IP address, then switch it back to obtain an IP address automatically. You also need to remove the remote gateway address and disable DNS. These settings can be
found in the TCP/IP properties of your Network Card.
-
Open your browser (i.e. Internet Explorer or Netscape) and enter http://192.168.1.1/
into the address or location box and press Enter. A login dialog box should appear. Enter
a username and password of admin and password respectively, and click OK.
-
A welcome screen should appear with a place to change the default username/password. Enter
your DACOR username and password (or anything else that you can remember) and click the Change
button. The "Getting Started" window should appear (If not, then skip to step 6).
-
In the "Getting Started" window, click the Next button. You will now be asked to
login again. Use the username and password you specified in the previous step. Continue to
click the Next button without making any changes until you get to the Protocol option.
When you come to the Protocol option, change it to Bridge and click Next. You
should now be done (if not, continue to click Next, until you come to the end). Click
Done. You will get a notice that the modem needs to be reset, click OK to let
that happen. The lights on the modem will flash for a while, then the "Connection Overview"
screen should appear.
-
On the "Connection Overview" there will be a row of menu options titled; Home, Status,
Configuration, Maintenance, Troubleshooting, and Help. Click on the Configuration menu
and select VC Configuration. The VC Configuration screen will appear.
-
On the VC Configuration screen only the first row will be enabled, all the others will
be disabled. Click the Edit button to the right side of the first row. The VC1
Configuration screen will appear.
-
On the VC1 Configuration screen make sure the Protocol is set to Bridge and then set the
Mode to Routed Bridge. When you change the Mode to Routed Bridge a group of boxes appear
allowing you to enter your assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Server
Addresses.
Make sure that the client DHCP option is disabled and all the information is entered correctly, then click the Set VC button. Again a message that the modem needs
to be reset will appear, click OK to reset the modem. The “Connection Overview” screen
should reappear and the status should change to “Up” (when the lights on the modem quit
flashing).
-
At this point if you only wanted to connect one computer, then you are done. You should be
able to click the “Home” button on the browser or any of your Internet “Favorites” and the
appropriate page should appear. If you have problems and/or want to connect additional
computers to the Internet, then please call the office for additional instructions.
