How to Roam
The iPass connection software contains an international phone
book with iPass access points and login information. A simple
point-and-click interface acts as an "assistant" and creates
a connection to the Internet based on the country, city and
phone number selected.
Please choose the connection software for your operating system.
iPassConnect Dial Wizard for Windows 95/98/NT
iPass Dial Wizard for Macintosh (System 7.5.3 or higher)
Before You Roam
There are four important things to do before you travel -
- Test the connection software before roaming: Follow the instructions for
installing the iPass Dial Wizard or Microsoft Connection Manager and test
its operability before you begin traveling. We suggest that you test several access
points.
- Understand that modems function differently worldwide: Many countries
have different telecommunications laws and practices. Check with your
modem supplier to ensure your modem will be compatible with the phone
systems in the country where you are traveling. Many of the older modems
are not compatible from country to country. Make sure you also have
compatible electrical power adapters for the country where you are
roaming. For comprehensive information about international phone
systems, or to purchase the adaptors you will need while traveling,
please see:
http://www.teleadapt.com/ipass.
- Update your iPass connection software: Before you begin
roaming, consult with us to make sure you have the most recent
release of the iPass connection software. This will ensure you
have the current access numbers before you roam. iPass adds new
phone numbers regularly.
- Reconfigure your Email for Roaming: Before you begin
roaming, it is important that you understand how your Email will work
while you are outside of DACOR's local calling area. While it is possible to read your Email from anywhere in the world without any changes to your
email server profile, most ISP's, including DACOR, restrict the ability to send outgoing email
based on where you have connected. In order to support your iPass roaming,
DACOR's email server supports sending mail by checking your username & password
just like when you read mail. If you pass the username test then our server will
allow you to send mail even though you are not dialed in locally. You must, therefore,
reconfigure your outgoing (SMTP) server to mail.dacor.net and indicate that
your SMTP server requires a username/password to send email. This set-up differs for
different Email programs and within revisions of the same program. Older Email programs
may not even support this feature. Please check your Email program for this
feature BEFORE you leave on your trip. If you don't find this feature, upgrade your email
software. If you have this feature, configure it and test it before you leave,
our server will accept this configuration even when you dial us locally.
